SSUL/WYS Recreational Cup
The Recreational Cup is the WYS State Tournament exclusively for U9-U19 recreational teams. The tournaments preliminary games are held within each respective district in October and November with the SSUL Final games being held prior to Thanksgiving. The SSUL champions will then proceed to the State Quarterfinals the first weekend in December, with the semi-finalists moving on to the second weekend in December to play semi-finals and finals.
Eligibility
Please review the State Rules for Recreational Cup link at the bottom of this page for eligibility.
This cup is open to recreational teams only. A recreational team is defined as any team where the use of tryouts, invitations, recruiting or any like process to roster players selectively on the basis of talent or ability is prohibited.
SSUL administrators will determine whether teams fit the recreational classification.
Additionally your tournament roster is your registered team for the current league season - no guest players allowed.

How to Register
Head coaches/team manager or other team official will need to contact their home club registrar.
Additional Information
Teams will play all teams in their bracket during the preliminary SSUL round. Most teams will see 1-3 games, but is dependent on how many teams register for the age group. If there are no other teams in the bracket the single team will not have preliminary games and will move on to state play.
Game Day Rosters are be required for players and team officials.
Games are generally played on the opposite day of your league game (although league or Cup games may occur mid-week).
All coaches, trainers, managers, and other team personnel (limited to 4 in number) must be RMA cleared and have a current member pass.
Only rostered coaches/managers/trainers will be allowed on the sidelines at District and State final games. Players added to a roster after the tournament registration date are not eligible for the team.
Make sure you and your team reserve the first two weekends in December for state portion of the tournament.
Do not neglect to confer with your team to ensure they will be available to play in the State finals (i.e. be sure they aren't busy with basketball or skiing) and are willing to travel to the Quarterfinal venue (which could be anywhere in the state).
Note to older teams please be aware that academic testing can be a conflict during preliminaries and with state finals.
Also accommodation is not made for teams to attend homecoming or recover from homecoming events.
There are no games Thanksgiving weekend.

Subject: Data Breach ALERT **Please Read**
We want to alert all WPL Clubs that there was a data breach at the Washington Premier League by a former employee, according to an investigation recently concluded by US Club Soccer.
US Club determined this former staff member illegally accessed WPL’s GotSport account and engaged in "conduct detrimental to US Club soccer and US Club Soccer Policies 9.03 (US Club Soccer Discipline) and 9.06 (Conduct Generally)."
"Based upon the magnitude of these findings, (the former employee) is suspended from all activities within US Club Soccer’s jurisdiction for a period of two (2) years, from April 8, 2024 through April 8, 2026."
US Club Soccer has requested that US Soccer apply this suspension to all US soccer affiliates.
Additional evidence suggests this former employee may have used this unauthorized access to search and target specific player information inside WPL club accounts – all without authorization. The league is continuing to investigate the scope of this data breach.
If you are receiving unwanted email posts from Western Washington Surf, formerly Titans FC, it likely means that your club account has been compromised. We suggest that parents and players that don’t want to receive these emails unsubscribe immediately. We also suggest that clubs take the additional security steps below:
Clubs should remove any people with administrative access that are no longer with the club
All staff should change their passwords and do so regularly.
Review their access to all your administrators and limit who has access to specific information within your account.
Clubs should request two factor authentication from GotSport
The Washington Premier League is currently working with an online security expert to tighten our security. We have already taken the steps listed above and will continue to work with the security experts to make additional improvements.
The league apologizes to all clubs, players and parents whose personal information is compromised The league will keep everyone informed of any updates.

There are conflicting reports, some areas may be Moderate and other Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Today the forecast was wrong as it said it would improve through the day.
Please adapt your training sessions to reduce activity level and shorten your drills, more breaks etc.
https://www.airnow.gov/?city=South%20Hill&state=WA&country=USA
Moderate – Some people are especially sensitive to lower levels of particle pollution and should reduce exposure. For example, limit time outside and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. All sensitive groups should watch for symptoms.
Unhealthy for sensitive groups (USG) – Sensitive groups should take steps to reduce exposure. Limit time outside, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and follow tips for cleaner indoor air. Everyone should watch for symptoms as a sign to reduce exposure.
8/21
I have been monitoring the air quality. Numbers have already gone down today from Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups to Moderate. The forecast is expected to drop even lower this afternoon. I think we will be good for training tonight. =) I will keep watching it.
Our policy states a decision will be made by 4pm each day as air quality can change so quickly.
Our air quality policy is on the Administration page of the website.

Modified Practices again Weds 8/16 as heat precautions are the same as yesterday.
The 5pm practice time today shows predicted Alert Level Red WBGT based on predicted humidity. This level allows play with modified training, see below. The numbers should improve from there.
Below you will find the WBGT chart. Since practice locations are varied around the area, please check the chart with your temperature and humidity. Coaches may choose to cancel, move your time later, but please follow the guidelines. Please check with your coach if they are practicing.
Alert Level Red – Maximum of one hour of training with four separate 4 minute breaks within the hour. No additional conditioning allowed.
Alert Level Orange – Maximum two hours of training time with four separate 4 minute breaks each hour, or a 10 minute break after 30 minutes of continuous training
Alert Level Yellow – Use discretion, provide three separate 4 minute breaks each hour, or a 12 minute break every 40 minutes of continuous training
Stay cool & hydrated!

Hello RSA Union Coaches,
Due to the high heat and humidity, all practices will be cancelled today, Monday 8/14. The WBGT is showing Extreme Conditions at 5pm today and WYS guidelines say there is no training outdoors in Extreme Conditions.
With high heat expected the rest of week, we will be watching it daily. I do believe that this could be the worst day.
Stay cool & hydrated!

Referees needed for the upcoming Fall Soccer Season!!!
The 2023/2024 Referee Clinics are now available to sign up for. There are 2 new referee clinics posted on the WAREFEREES.ORG website. Any new referees need to sign up to become a new referee, complete the modules, and then select the field clinic.
It is imperative to do this asap so the clinics don't fill up with “out of towners”
RSA is hosting the Saturday 7/15 at Heritage Rec Center, Field A.
Must be 13 to register, otherwise the system will refuse to register.
There will be another field clinic in Fircrest in August if turn 13 by then.
Completion of the lessons and field clinic will get the referee a 2024 badge. Referees can then work through December 31, 2024, without any further costs (except their equipment/clothing).

Clinic: Introduction to Soccer Player Development
FOR: New and Returning RSA Union Coaches
Objectives:
1. Know and understand how children learn.
2. Know the difference between a player learning how to play vs a player being taught how to play.
3. Be able to prepare training sessions that facilitate learning through creating a learning environment.
Time: 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Venue: Heritage park field A
Date: Wednesday, March 8
If we have enough people, we will "walk" through some of the activities featured in the course, so bring comfortable shoes for the field turf. Depending on whether we demonstrate or just talk through the activities, the time could be shorter than an hour.
Also, I will cover the material if even one coach shows up. So if you arrive and don't see a big crowd, find me anyway.
NEW coaches rarely plan to be new coaches until after they have signed up your kids. So if you think it is a remote possibility that you might help out with your child's team, either as a head coach or assistant, come on out. It's FREE.

Training will be canceled tonight due to increasing snow and dropping temperatures. Our apologies for the last minute notice! The weather has changed drastically over the past hour. The safety of our players is our main concern.
Everyone stay home safe & warm if you can!
10/19
Air quality in the area continues to remain high in the area. All practices tonight are canceled at all locations.
Coaches - Please communicate with your team through your normal process to make sure everyone gets the notice.
10/19
RSA is watching the air quality today. We will make a determination for practices tonight at 4pm. The air quality can change quickly. Lets hope for improvement throughout the day today. Watch for an update around 4pm today.
10/14
PCSA follows the guidelines set by the state using information from the Department of Ecology for the state of Washington. Click on the below link for the different categories and their descriptions. If the air quality reaches 151, all play should stop immediately. When the air quality is 150 or lower, it is at the parent's discretion if their player participates.
https://ecology.wa.gov/Research-Data/Monitoring-assessment/Air-Quality-Index
To monitor current air quality, click on the below link and enter the zip code for the location of your game/activity. If you scroll down, you will also see the forecast for the air quality for the zip code entered. Tomorrow, the forecast for the Puyallup zip code of 98371 (WPFC's complex falls in this zip code) is 102.
If a reschedule is necessary, please work with the opposing coach to coordinate a day that works for both teams. If it's a home game, please email fields@rsasoccer.net with that change request.

will begin @ 4:00 pM
It is very important that we keep on schedule.
Please, please, please if your scheduled time does not work for your team or if you need any type Of adjustment please email us at star@starimages.org We will be more than happy to work with you. Do not make any Changes to the schedule without contacting Star images. We keep the master schedule accurate by making changes at our end so it does not effect others.
COACH - If you decide not to do photos you might let your parents who ordered photos know your decision and star images. We deal with many upset parents who order photos but the occasional coach decides not to show up for photo day without communicating with their families. Please let your families and Star Image know about your decision. star@starimages.org
Please be ready 10-15 minutes early. Your photo time is when your team should be in front of the camera not your arrival time. Arrive early and as soon as your team is ready, we will work with you.
We photograph your team first then individuals so we have to wait until everyone on the team is present before beginning. As soon as your team is ready, we will begin to take your photos.
Everyone in complete uniform jerseys tucked in, shoes tied, and looking great ? ? ? ? ?
Attached is a roster form. we need a name list of your team members so that we can keep track of the image numbers and who the images belong to. Please print out and complete the attached “roster sign up”. If these can be completed prior to their team photo time it will expedite the process.
All photo ordering is completed online. There are no photo order forms available on photo day. Please make sure everyone is aware of the deadline for ordering contained in the attached document.

Hello RSA Union Coaches -
As we start off the fall season, here is some important info-
Player Cards-
Player cards not required for U6-U10
U11-U12 rec teams should have player cards printed. Starting week 2, all PCSA games will have the ‘Print Roster’ option on the schedules which will print player cards onto the game day sheet. You will need to be logged in to view.
Recreational teams U13 and older will have player cards printed on their weekly game day rosters. Games day rosters are printed from the schedules. You will need to be logged in to have access to the ‘Print Roster’ button on the schedule.
If photos are not printed for cards, a 1x1 head shot can be cut out of any photo and laminated onto card. No signature required. Self laminating sheets are easy to use.
RSA Elite player cards required for NPSL
Uniforms -
Any RSA Union teams needing any other uniform size swap or remaining pieces that still need to be pick up, please email uniforms@rsasoccer.net.
LSDSC Rec teams will NOT have our club uniforms this weekend as our supplier did not get them out in time. They are encouraging our teams to wear dark blue/navy tops as well as to wear last years club uniform if individual players have them. Because of this, many our teams will not have tops with numbers but all teams U11 and above will have their player cards.
Washington United just received their uniforms in today. Not sure all teams will pick them up today, so they could be in the same situation as LSDSC teams.
Referees -
We already have fairly good ref coverage for games this weekend already. There are some games that still need refs assigned. Scott our Pierce County Ref Assignor is trying really hard to get all games covered. If referees are not present for the game the teams will agree to a referee or split the referee
duties.
Schedules-
Here the link to the RSA Schedules page -
9/10-9/11 Air Quality Concerns
Bad air quality is expected in the region this weekend. It could mainly be up north, but unpredictable at this point. Air quality could become unhealthy for outdoor activity. I will be watching our home field areas. Away teams will likely be watching theirs. If questions regarding away game air quality, it is best to get in contact with the away team coach. Air Quality can be found here www.arinow.gov
If a reschedule is necessary, please work with opposing coach to coordinate a day that works for both teams. If it's a home game, please email me with that change request. Let's hope it does not come to that.
Good luck to everyone this weekend & season!

Hey RSA coaches.
I'm super excited to see your kids playing games and enjoying soccer this coming weekend! Your families are excited, too. Some are old hands at youth soccer and ready for the season. Others are new to this and probably a little nervous about what they are expected to do.
If you haven't done so already, now is a good time to reach out to all of your families and let them know your expectations. Little things you might take for granted they may not.
For instance:
How early do you want them at the field before the game? How early do you call the team the together to start warmups? Does your team have a communications network for arranging carpools? Do you have any policies or habits they ought to know about how you substitute or how often? Do you want them to always to bring the other jersey, just in case? A lot of things might be simple and common-sense things, but if you put them in writing and communicate them, it lets parents know you are thinking of them.

The rest will slowly be posted over the next couple of weeks. League schedules can be found on the RSA website under the schedules tab.
Uniforms should be arriving this week. Please watch for an email as early as Wednesday for pick up time & location. They will be bundled by teams and need to be picked up by a coach or a team representative.

Player cards will be printed this weekend for players U10 and older. If your player still needs a photo in their player account, can you please upload a photo. You can upload a headshot by logging in through Member Log In on the RSA website www.rsasoccer.net. Member log in can be found on the bottom on the left hand menu. If the menu is not visible click the 3 bars or 3 dots on the top to open the menu. Some browsers view differently.
Any photo will work. You can also zoom in on any photo to make it a head shot.

Uniform pick up will likely be the last week in Aug, on Mon & Weds, times tbd, location - Heritage Rec Center
8/17
Due to the high heat tonight and tomorrow night, there will be a modified training schedule with only 1 hours sessions with at least 4 breaks within the hour. Please keep an eye on your players and give extra hydration breaks as needed.
The WGBT is close to the cancel practice point, however not showing over at this point. There are still some precautions that must be taken which include a 1 hour maximum training time, at least 4 breaks each hour for at least 4 minutes.
Please communicate with your teams so that players are not waiting out in the heat longer than needed for pick up after training.
7/26
Due to the high heat and increasing humidity, all practices will be canceled for the Weds and Thurs this week. The WBGT is showing Extreme Conditions and is considered unsafe for training outdoors.

Referee's needed! Great part time job for anyone at least 13 years old. Please pass on to anyone that may be interested.
Hello PCSA,
The new field clinics for 2023 have been approved by the State Referee Association for this next month (tomorrow!), July. Referees completing their online courses and finishing one of these three field clinics will receive a 2023 badge and be able to referee through December 2023!
Thanks to all of the clubs that invited us to tryouts to get the information into the parents and players hands. We made contact with over 250 people to get them the referee information. Please remember that referees must be 13 years of age at the time of testing, otherwise they will not be allowed into the program. USSF has made zero exceptions to this policy.
The FIELD clinics are 4 hours long and are as follows:
Saturday July 9th – Fircrest Community Center – Fircrest WA
Saturday July 16th – Heritage Recreation Center – Field A - Puyallup WA
Saturday July 30th – Tacoma Community College (Gig Harbor Campus) – Gig Harbor, WA
Please contact your players and let them know that NOW is the time to sign up on https://www.wareferees.org/
Get the testing done, and then sign up for one of these three field clinics. We really need the clubs administration support in getting new referees.
Thank you again for all of your support of Pierce County players, coaches, and referees!

A referee clinic has been scheduled on Saturday10/2 from 1-4:30pm at Fruitland Elementary with Pierce County Soccer Referees Association. Any referee candidates can register and pay their fees at this website: https://www.wareferees.org/
After registration, they can complete their online lessons (18 need to complete SafeSport also) and then they can access the clinics to make their choice. Online portion needs to be complete by 9/30.
The clinics are shortened to 3 ½ hours on the field. The field clinics have a maximum capacity of 32 candidates.
Referee shortages are happening sport wide and nationwide. For comparison;
In 2016, Washington State had 6,020 registered soccer referees at all levels
In 2019 (pre Covid), Washington State had 5,681 registered soccer referees at all levels
As of June 2021, Washington State has 2,600 registered soccer referees at all levels
It is critical that we find players and parents that can step up, get registered, and get out on the field enforcing safety and fair play to our players. It is also a great way to make some extra money!!
Please share with anyone that could potentially be interested in becoming a referee.

Hello SSUL Coaches and Team Managers,
Welcome to our Fall 2021 soccer season! We're providing this summary information to help everyone get ready for games beginning this weekend (September 11-12). These reminders from the Coach’s Meeting will help ensure the season runs smoothly from the first game check-in to the final whistle.
Game Day Rosters
Everyone's game day rosters in Affinity should be complete and accurate. Please print, then verify that everyone that might play in the game appears on the roster.
Please let your club registrar know about any discrepancies.
Print 2 game day rosters prior to each game and bring them with you to give to the referee.
Game day rosters can only be printed 3 days prior to game date and includes opposing roster information.
Instructions for Printing a Game Day Roster
Player Cards (U11 and above only)
Everyone on your SSUL spring roster should have a player card (including coaches). Note: Player cards are not required for U9 and U10 teams
New cards should be created for your team for the Fall 2021-2022 season. Photos will need to be attached and the cards laminated.
If you don't have a Player Card for all of the players on your game day roster, please contact your club or association registrar to generate these for you.
Bring player cards to every game.
NOTE: Teams that are unable to provide valid Game Day Rosters and corresponding Player Cards per our SSUL Operating Procedures may risk possible forfeiture of games
Score and Game Reporting
After each game, access Affinity to enter game score and any disciplinary action (red or yellow cards) that occurred during the game for both teams.
Instructions for Entering Game Score (located at the end of the document)
Sportsmanship
Please treat players, coaches, and referees as you would want to be treated yourself. When leading by 5 or more goals, keep scores down and challenge your players in other ways.
Sideline behavior is your responsibility. All comments from the sidelines are expected to be positive and supportive of the players, coaches, and officials. Remind player families that their responsibility is to enjoy watching their child play. If you require support in this effort, please let us know.
Here are a couple of things to reflect on ahead of your game.
Be patient with your players and keep your coaching positive. This is recreational soccer and we are here to play the game and have fun!
Be respectful and grateful of your referees. They are a rare thing right now and they are people! They are doing their best and nobody is perfect. They are likely from our local community, young refs might even be players in your club, and deserve our respect.
Be respectful of your opponent. Make sure you talk to your opposing coach and get alignment on rules, sideline, and how you might handle if the score get’s lopsided.
Set the expectations with your parents around sideline behavior. The parents and spectators represent your team and this club. If you haven’t told your parents in person you can send them an email. You as the head coach are responsible for the behavior of your player’s parents and spectators. Here are a couple of topics of points to make.
Cheer on their kids and make it positive! Leave the coaching to the coach.
Parents and spectators should not comment or say anything to a referee and how they are calling a game. Period. Leave that engagement to the coach to handle.
Do not engage with negative comments you might hear from opposing team’s spectators. Let the coach know and they can let the opposing head coach know.
Do not say anything negative towards the opposing players or their spectators.
Goal Differential Guidance
To support a positive experience for all teams, coaches are expected to encourage fair play and sportsmanship on match day. This includes being aware of the score and making adjustments in order to maintain a maximum goal differential of 6. Coaches will contact the SSUL Operations Committee any time there is a score line that exceeds 6 goals and provide an explanation as well as plans for addressing recurrences in subsequent matches. SSUL administrators will follow up with non-compliant coaches and clubs.
WYS and Valor Return to Play Policy Update >>> New
Washington Youth Soccer updated their game day protocols and safety plan in advance of fall league play. Their document can be found HERE. Make sure you are fully versed on protocols, please. Here are the key points in simple terms:
Players and coaches are not required to wear a mask outdoors.
Coaches should keep a physical distance from players (at least 6 feet) as much as possible.
No huddles, hand shakes, fist bumps or other 'in close' contact aside from the play itself.
Player backpacks and other gear should be kept separated as much as possible.
If a player or coach tests positive they must quarantine for 10 days.
The player or coach who tests positive is not allowed to return without medical clearance from a physician.
If the player or coach who tests positive has been in contact with his or her Valor team (or any other) in the last 48 hours the team will be notified (player identity kept anonymous).
If a player or coach tests positive the reminder of the team will continue all activities (with a fill-in coach if needed).
We hope you all have a great season! Please keep us updated on ways we can improve SSUL for you and all teams participating.
Thank You,
SSUL
